Jaya YC originally started off as a producer under the name “YC,” but something told him he was destined for more. So he added an “A” to his nickname, “Jay,” and combined it with his producer handle to get Jaya YC. The new name also came with a bonus.
“I did not realize the actual name and pronunciation in Hindu was victorious, so it’s a cool coincidence,” he said.
The Seattle native began making music in 2016 and originally conjured up inspiration from popular contemporary creators from one realm (Eminem, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar) but quickly found influence from another area of modern music.
“When I entered college and began experimenting with my sound, artists like Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert and Pi’erre Bourne were who I listened to, and Juice WRLD became my favorite influence and artist of all time,” Jaya YC explained. “Growing up in a household that loved all types of music, I listened to jazz and its many subgenres, rap, R&B, reggae and rock n’ roll. I also love classical music, which is what inspired me to produce melodic beats when I used to produce.”
This hardworking MC will only continue to improve and create fire new music as long as he is physically able to, and that seems to be his plan of action.
“I plan to release more singles throughout the year and finally get more visuals of myself out,” he said. “I have music videos planned and will be remastering my 2021 mixtape ‘The Sad Tapes’ to release later this year.”
This incredible rapper will not fly under the radar for much longer!
