For years, New York has been a thriving home for popular music genres such as hip-hop, urban blues, rock, R&B, and jazz, to name a few. This has seen many talented artists join the space, disrupting the NYC music scene and taking over the global music industry. One such incredible talent who has quickly built his name, cementing his spot, is DJ, music producer, and remixer J Star.
From the Dominican Republic to NYC, J Star is setting new records in the industry, with many labeling him the next big thing in the NYC music world. J Star is one of the top on-air DJs, having worked for various radio stations. He has been on the radio for many years hosting on different stations, including Power 105.1 FM, 5p Angie Martinez Show, and Pitbull’s station Sirius XM ch.13.
According to J Star, radio has helped shape his career, equipping him with the basics to succeed in the music industry. He notes that his first-ever job was at Hot 9 and KTU, where he worked for some time before he left to pursue something bigger. At the time, J Star was doing his internship as he had just graduated from audio engineering school. He says that working with others in the industry inspired him to put in much more effort, and he also got a deeper understanding of the music industry and what he could do differently to stand out and change the music scene.
Growing up in NYC in a musical family, J Star’s love for music was unbeatable. He notes that from a young age, he was certain he wanted to pursue a career in music, and the first time he saw a DJ on his deck, J Star knew he had found his passion. However, he wanted to do things differently.
“New York is home to various artists and features a wide range of music genres,” explains J Star. To ensure no one feels left out, J Star came up with his unique style by mixing hip-hop, reggae, house, salsa, rock, and many other genres, setting him apart in a brutally competitive industry.
J Star has opened for some of the most prominent artists in the industry and worked with various brands, including Adidas, Nike, the NBA, and Jordan. He has also played multiple events across NYC and beyond, including the halftime show for the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
As he continues to thrive, DJ J Star is setting new records in the music industry. He is introducing a unique vibe to the NYC music scene, which is now changing the music industry and making performances more energetic and thrilling. In the next five years, J Star says that his goal is to expand his profession using his skills as a DJ, remixer, and producer to create timeless mixes and encourage up-and-coming artists. He is looking to produce his own songs, play bigger stadiums, and work with bigger artists, assisting each other to grow.
