Jay St. John‘s music career began in an unlikely place: a creative writing class in his hometown of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Assigned to write a song for a project, St. John, an self-proclaimed overachiever, took the assignment to the next level by fully producing his song in GarageBand, despite having no prior musical experience.
Looking back, St. John laughs at those early efforts, but they sparked a passion that would follow him to Nashville, Tennessee, where he currently resides. Now, as a Christian hip-hop artist, St. John is making a name for himself with his relatable lyrics and catchy beats.
What sets St. John apart from other artists in the genre is his desire to reach a broader audience. “Being a Christian, I don’t want people to be turned off by an overly complex song about my faith,” he explains. “My songs are about life and struggles. They just so happen to include my faith in them because it’s what has been the most important thing in my life.”
St. John‘s lyrics are raw and honest, as showcased in his favorite line from his song “Slow I Swear”: “Learned to control them, used to abuse them, and with you I won’t do the same.” This vulnerability is resonating with listeners and helping to build a devoted fanbase.
Currently, St. John is promoting his first two singles, “Claustrophobic” and “Slow I Swear.” But he’s always looking to the future, with a new single, “All I Want,” set to drop on September 6th. Fans can keep up with the latest from St. John on Instagram (@jayst.john), TikTok (@jaystjohnmusic), and on all major streaming services.
As St. John‘s star continues to rise, he remains committed to his craft and his message. With his talent, dedication, and relatable style, he’s an artist to watch in the Christian hip-hop scene.
