Growing up in Compton, California, Eric Steptoe was influenced by the Compton rap greats that preceded him, pushing him down a path similar to theirs. However, he followed them too far down that path, getting himself in trouble with the law, and putting his music career to a halt. With that being said, Smokey Wild is a dedicated worker and constantly is honing his craft, while always making sure to be a student of the game and pay attention to what some other artists are up to as well.
While there are many things that Smokey Wild has done that he regrets, but there is one thing about him that most other rappers cannot say they are. He’s authentic, he’s real, and everything he says about his life and the struggle he’s been through over the years is true, putting a real-life feel to his music that doesn’t happen with every artist’s content. Most people can say they have good flow and are a good lyricist, but most rappers can’t claim that they’re totally authentic in their material.
Smokey Wild is coming out with new music all year in 2022. The next single he plans on releasing is called “Balenciaga” and tells the story about a man and woman that hustle together, helping each other achieve their dreams and goals and life. The single goes on to describe how the man rewards the woman for her staying loyal to him by buying her lots of Balenciaga. Smokey Wild is on his way out of Compton and on his way to the top.
