What 3 things does anyone starting in your industry need to know?
Anyone starting out as a producer I’d tell them – speed kills and consistency creates champions. You gotta be very efficient and stay in people’s face especially in the social media age because people run through content at such a fast pace.
Make sure your business and branding is together. Besides making beats having a brand is important. Imagine going to get some great food and nobody can remember where to get it. Make the brand to become memorable that way people know where to go to get your product.
3rd thing get a lawyer.
What would you do differently if you were starting in your industry now?
There’s not much I would change because doing everything then got me where I am now. I appreciate the ups and downs because without them I wouldn’t telling you about them. If I knew then what I knew now though I would learn more skills like marketing and video editing and developed my branding earlier. Besides making 10 beats a day in different genres.
Which people or books have had the most influence on your growth and why?
Nipsey Hussle, DestoDubb, Drakeo the Ruler, Tyler the Creator, Kanye West, Pharrell have all influenced me mostly. I’ve watched and taken a lot of gems from them and applied it in different areas of music and business. Books been Contagious by Jonah Berger, Robert Green’s books, 50th Law by Robert Greene and 50 Cent, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki just a few in my library.
What would you say is the #1 key to success in your music career?
Number 1 key to success depends on how you define success. You can just want to be rich so in that sense branding, touring, marketing and consistency would be important. Some people define success as changing or evolving the sound or even trying to change the world with their music and thats where innovation comes in. I’ve seen both the commonality is consistency and dedication.
Talk about the biggest failure you’ve had. What did you learn from it?
My biggest failure I say is not being prepared and missing out on opportunities. I just learned to think steps ahead and be on time.
What has been your biggest success story and why do you think it was a success?
My biggest success story is overcoming obstacles like working with what I had to get to where I want to be and just doubling down on my work ethic. I learned a lot of that from Dubb, Greedo and Drakeo.
What keeps you going when things get tough in the music industry?
The thing that keeps me going is the fans and the people who believe in me fr. I like to travel or go to the beach to clear my head and I just think about everybody who looks to me for inspiration.
What made you pursue being an Artist full time?
I pursued being an artist full time to stay out of trouble. Music really saved my life because I was living life wild. When I was in jail people were saying they’d heard of my music and I didn’t belong in there. I got out I was on a federal probation and I had a lot of restrictions on me i couldn’t travel, I couldn’t risk police contact etc so I realized when I started just staying in the studio and creating I wasn’t risking anything. I would just go to the studio and go home then I end up making some hit records. So that’s what made me really reevaluate and just pursue art.
Would you sign to a label?
Right now I would only sign to a label if they have a smooth situation for my team. HitMob Music Group RonRonTheProducer, Quadwoofer, AcetheFace, MenaceOTB and myself we all producers and we all do numbers. It would only make sense for us all to get a deal. It’s either that or we could follow the WuTang blueprint. I honestly would be more interested in a partnership where they enhance what we already have going.
What projects are you working on for the rest of 2022?
My project “Where’s Joog” is out now, I’m currently working on the deluxe and shooting videos. I have also been experimenting with different sounds to dive into different genres to work on getting placed with a wider variety of artists. I’m also collaborating with HitMob even more. Long Live Drakeo the Ruler & Long Long Live Ketchy the Great.
