Exclusive Interview: Rising Artist Tragically Magic

What is your name and what city do you rep?

-Tragically Magic. Born and raised and still based in Cape Cod, MA.

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

-My latest release, The Limit, features an artist that was an inspiration for me becoming an artist, Bingx. The Limit stands as a motivational piece, sharing a mindset of releasing the only limitations you have are the ones you set yourself. Recognizing your adversities and moving past them, elevating yourself to where you’re destined to be.

What is unique about you and your music?

-Majority of my songs are completely non-explicit, and speak on mentality issues and dealing with adversities in the human psyche. I avoid drug and gang related lyrics entirely, making the messages I put into each song universal.

What shaped your music?

-Pain and personally having depression really drives the music I make. Whether it’s looking from the perspective of dealing with what’s working against me, or reflecting back on where I was and the mindset that helped me conquer it. Growing up listening to and resonating with the styles of 90s Hiphop, the flow and styles heavily influence my own flow and lyricism.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

-Back in 2016, I had injured both of my feet and ankles to the point I could no longer continue boxing. My dreams and passions were shattered, and I slowly fell into a dark spiral, lost within myself. The music I had in my headphones really was the only thing that kept me going and helped me deal with the drastic change my life took. I thought to myself 3 years later looking back at it all and asked myself ‘What if I could create something to help others get through their dark times?”. I taught myself how to write lyrics and started recording in March of 2019 and went from there.

What type of music do you listen to?

-I listen to a variety of genres but mainly rap. More specifically songs that have a story or meaning to them. J.Cole, Dax, NF, Hopsin, Kendrick Lamar being among stand out artists that I gravitate to.

What inspires you to write music?

-Different phrases or words or even a memory will become an entire song with me. Every song I create has a message and a story behind them that inspired it and fuels every line.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

-Reminiscent of my boxing days, I still train at the gym and meditate to clear my mind. Creating is my release, training is my focus, and meditation is my rest and recharge.

Happiness to you is…

-Happiness is honestly still something I’m figuring out for myself. I enjoy the impact my songs have on people, and the passion they have talking with me about how it resonated with them. The joy only last for a few moments and I know personally I have more work internally to make that feeling longer lasting, but that’s a journey I can also share with my fans as they work through their hard times as well.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

-Being an artist is being a brand and a business. All the complexities of any business you will have to face, overcome, and work around, you will face in the music industry with added adversities because you are the product.

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

-In the wake of the release of The Limit, I have 2 more singles confirmed for this year. The first of the two we will see this summer, both songs being solo tracks.

Where do we find you music / music projects?

-All of my releases are available on all major and minor platforms. From my Album Inside (2020) to The Limit (2022)

Any last words for the readers?

-Whatever your passion is, your dream, your goals and hopes.. They only become possible if you never quit in the pursuit of them. Your hardest days come just before your greatest gains.
