Exclusive Interview: Rising Artist Dot The Mamba

What 3 things does anyone starting in your industry needs to know?

The three things people need to know are how to understand the craft with the quality of music you can create. The 2nd is how to connect with listeners and perhaps my 3rd is truly the belief in yourself by betting and taking a chance especially when you’re a struggling artist trying to get on as much as you can

What would you do differently if you were starting in the industry now?

I don’t know because I’m still grinding but I’d probably say a better understanding of how the industry works and to navigate it with people you can trust and that understand your vision so that you can have the confidence of what you can achieve long term. Right now, I’m still in the beginning phase.

Which people or books have had the most influence on your growth and why?

I’ve always studied the greats from afar. Like Cole, Kendrick, etc. but I also say that my family is my motivation to what I do. Coming from Greenwood, MS, there’s not much to do and you have to have the hunger and not settle. Also, growing up with Asperger Syndrome, I had to find something to express myself and wanna share my story with the world so that people who have my condition can look at themselves in me and say “if he can do it, then I can too.”

What has been your biggest success story? Why do you think it was a success?

I don’t have much of a success story cause I feel like I didn’t achieve anything. Like I said, I’m just trying to break through cause I’m still underground. I don’t know what my success story would be like but I would love it to see what unfolds down the road if given a chance god willing.

What keeps you going when things get tough in the music industry?

What will keep me going is the passion for what I do, my family will be my biggest inspiration as well as my hometown and home state of Mississippi. I’ve always had a chip on my shoulder since I started rapping and wanting to do this. I understand that there will be scrutiny and trials but the trick is not to let it dim my love for what I do. I don’t try to chase for attention, I want people to look at me in a different light so I know that there are perks when it comes to being in this game but you gotta try to take the good with the bad but stay even keel and keep perspective on why I do this in the first place while adapting to the changes that’s going on around me.

What made you pursue being an Artist full time?

I started rapping around 15 or 16. It was when I performed in high school 2010 in front of my peers that made me say “I can do this”. Then after I graduated college, I want to pursue music full time of course. RIght now, I got a part time job in order to help financially and I still live with my folks. So I still do music while I’m working at my job. But I do wanna be an artist full time so that I can enjoy doing what I love doing while still providing for my family and me.

Would you sign to a label?

No, not at the moment because I always consider being my own artist independently but I would love to do a distribution deal with a label. I feel like these days, artist can be successful taking the independent route because you still have control of your music and stuff.

What projects are you working on for the rest of 2024?

Right now, I’m just releasing my new single “2 Turnt” featuring G.M.E. Yung Mac (Prod. by Big Jeezy). I released a project last year called “To Whom It May Concern” which is still out on streaming platforms. But I will be working on more music later this year and I’ll be dropping a new project somewhere in early 2025. Make sure you stay tuned for that.
