What is your name and what city do you rep?
My Name Is Anthony Cherry & I go by the stage name A.T.G ANT. I’m originally from Springfield,IL but have living in Nashville,TN for the last couple years.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
My latest release is “Money On My Mind”, the inspiration I got for that was the grind I’ve been in these last few years striving to be a better me in all aspects of my life from finishing school, sobering up,getting in shape, making more money & getting better at music. Cause those things take sacrifice but the results they give you in the end are worth it.
What is unique about you and your music?
I’d say what is unique about me and my music is it’s authentic, I do write half of my songs down so I can focus more on the actual rapping part but for the rest of it I’m free styling on the spot. I try not to glorify stuff without talking about the good & bad of each of the choices I’ve made because I’m no saint & I’m not telling anyone to try and be me. I just want them to learn from what I’ve been through and apply the good aspects to there life.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
I knew it since I was kid and reciting rap songs in my bedroom to myself, imaging I was on a stage preforming for a crowd that wasn’t there. I’ve tried to stop rapping and try and tell myself I’m going to get a normal job or go back to school which there is nothing wrong with but that just isn’t for me at that moment. I feel like I have to make music I’ve probably gone maybe 48 hours without writing some type of lyric or free styling to a beat since I’ve started. I’m addicted to it, I don’t feel right if I’m not creating something and music is something I truly love because it’s always been there for me.
What type of music do you listen to?
I listen to everything, most days I’ll listen to rap from Biggie smalls,Gucci mane,Kevin Gates,A$AP Rocky, etc. But I also like Artist outside of that like Ed Sheeran,Tyler Childers & Zach Bryan. As well as old school artist like Jimi Hendrix,The Isley Brothers,Dean Martin & Beethoven. I don’t really care what genre the artist represents I’m listing to what they are saying and how it makes me feel. Most the time there are some similarities in what we went through the circumstances may of been different and our reactions may of been too, but we still both learned the same lesson.
What inspires you to write music?
It’s therapeutic for me I’m more of an introverted person so in the outside world I’m Farley quiet observing the world around me and it’s get hard to connect with people sometimes so there is a lot of stuff I keep to myself so when that beat comes on I let it out and let it go.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
It’s therapeutic for me I’m more of an introverted person so in the outside world I’m Farley quiet observing the world around me and it’s get hard to connect with people sometimes so there is a lot of stuff I keep to myself so when that beat comes on I let it out and let it go.
Happiness to you is…
Happiness to me is a choice I make to be everyday. Even if things aren’t how I want them to be or going as I planned I remain grateful because it could be worse.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
Develop Your Style,Invest in Great Sound Quality & Link with people who repost your stuff to get your name outside of your city this type of thing takes time nothing with longevity is going to happen overnight.
