Drake turns 40 on October 24 after starting the celebrations with friends in Toronto and a dinner in New York, closing a birthday week that follows a record-setting year on the charts.

Drake began his 40th birthday celebrations at Toronto’s CN Tower on October 21, gathering privately with friends ahead of the milestone. According to XXL’s October 23 report, Popcaan was among those present, and friends surprised the rapper with a collage of shared memories.

The festivities then moved across the border. Drake, his mother and members of his entourage traveled to New York aboard Air Drake, with the rapper spotted dining at Italian restaurant Mamo on October 22. The two-city itinerary meant the public glimpses of his birthday began several days before the actual date, rather than documenting a single October 24 party.

The birthday arrives after the release of three albums in May: Iceman, Habibti and Maid of Honour. XXL also reports that Drake has promised a 2027 tour supporting the projects, giving the next phase of his career a live-performance focus as well as a personal milestone.

Those records produced an unusual chart result. As Billboard reported, the May 15 releases debuted at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the Billboard 200 dated May 30. He became the first artist to occupy all three positions simultaneously in the album chart’s 70-year history, with Iceman leading the group.

The opening figures also show how differently the three projects performed within that sweep. Iceman registered 463,000 equivalent album units in the United States, compared with 114,000 for Habibti and 110,000 for Maid of Honour, according to Luminate figures cited by Billboard. The lead album became Drake’s 15th Billboard 200 No. 1.

The same May chart week delivered another career landmark: Drake placed 42 songs on the Hot 100, including 40 new entries, taking his career total at that point to 402. He was the first artist to cross 400 appearances on the singles chart. Those achievements provide the professional backdrop to this week’s more personal celebrations, with the Toronto gathering emphasizing the friends who have shared his journey.
