Ghanaian scientist and musician, Dr. Pushkin, has released scintillating visuals for the smash single “Lies”. The song is a collaboration between the academic and his compatriot Teri Wiizi. Undoubtedly, the two artists brought in very complementing skills to the song.
Dr Pushkin is a Ghanaian artist of Gurune extraction currently based in the U.S.A. He is the founder of the underground hip-hop and Afro-fusion group, Isolirium, composed of himself, Ataman Nikita and TeriWiizi.
The Ghanaian tech founder who prioritizes advocacy through music has often labeled his rap as “conscious music”. Thus, a bar-filled expose like “Lies” couldn’t have been released on a better date than on the occasion of Ghana’s 61st Republic Day.
The momentum that Dr Pushkin has built up over the past couple of years has led to some of the finest work of his career. His single “Lies” ft. TeriWiizi, in particular being one of his best. The production provides a sumptuous, earthy atmosphere, something rich, melodic and captivating.
In the song, Dr. Paul Azunre, known by his showbiz name “Dr. Pushkin”, alerts the youth by citing the deceptions, the two-facing character of people, and the lies from the political class, particularly mainstream politicians. He also berates the news media which is supposed to serve as a check – for leaning instead towards trends, sensationalism, and what brings in the most profit. The above becomes a basis for all to keep an open eye to spot all the deceptions and act appropriately.
Dr. Pushkin, who is also the founder of Ghana NLP, said he does his music to create awareness, speak against the ills of society, and help shape society for the better.
While both Dr Pushkin and TeriWiizi are never more than a verse or two away from an enlightening, conscious narrative, here it feels more palpable and immediate. Dr Pushkin and TeriWiizi are reflective, even brutally honest when they need to be, and on “Lies” they simply make the hardest truths sound easier to follow.
As immaculate as AzkonnaBeatz production is, it serves as a luxury backdrop, which frames the conscious rhymes that grab your attention.
Right from the outset, before you have time to process TeriWiizi’s hard-hitting lines, the artist is already onto the next one, loading every sentence with criticism, debate, and warning.
Moving forward, the song continues to reflect on both the present and the future, reiterating the timeless troubles modern society continue to face in an ever more deceptive world. Never concealed by the gorgeous mixing and mastering by DJ D.Abete, the song’s messages come through loud and clear.
“Nothing they say will ever be true. They don’t wanna see your dreams come true, no. Believe me fam nothing wrong with you. These leeches just want to profit off you,” exclaims Dr Pushkin, as he unfolds his verses. The striking sound of the single never leads it’s cautionary tale to become lost.

Lies (TeriWiizi & Dr. Pushkin) – MUSIC VIDEO
The music video alludes to the various problems facing democratic republics worldwide, and Ghana in particular.
In Dr. Pushkin’s opinion, democracies worldwide have swung hard towards Theocratic Authoritarianism, fueled by an environment where Powerful Liars are emboldened by their own sets of facts. In his view “we as a people must raise our voices to keep them accountable”. And when we do, we must be ready for retaliation, but we cannot give up or the problems we face will remain for future generations to deal with.
Released to coincide with Ghana’s Republic Day, 1st July 2022, the music video simulates the turbulent nature of today’s leadership across Ghana and the world. Dr. Pushkin teamed up with Atigsi-Badek and Kwame Black, placing quality and creativity at the top. The result is this visually appealing content complimenting this fantastic song and cracking the official top 20 YouTube weekly video charts in Ghana in its first week at #19 (charts.youtube.com)
“Lies” clearly suits Dr. Pushkin’s style of music and reminds us why his fan base keeps growing.
According to Dr Pushkin, listeners will find the song not only easy on the ears and catchy but riddled with words of wisdom that are relatable to persons from all walks of life.
The song throws light on some of the most unsavory of human traits: hypocrisy, two-timing, and deceit – TeriWiizi’s lyrics admonish his listeners to move so clever and see-through pretense, especially those who fake their lives on social media.
For Dr. Pushkin, the most valuable piece of advice that can be garnered from ‘Lies’ is a reminder; “being made to feel inferior is only a ruse by the oppressor to make a profit through the exploitation of others’ insecurities.”
Dr. Pushkin plans to keep his fans and the audience entertained with the release of an album dubbed ‘Outlandish – slated for release later this year (2022). Singles from the album released so far include “Rapinho”, “Hear Me Out” (with Muphasah), “Need You” (with Ataman Nikita & Budukusu), “Wake Up!” (with Kwadjo SPiRi), “Alien” (with Kromanteng) and “Lies” (with TeriWiizi). With such a mouth-watering lineup so far, we can only imagine what the rest of the album serves us!
Meanwhile, feature appearances – such as his recent Kumerican vibe “Dough” with Kinelman – are bound to keep us entertained. We are told to expect a video for that particular Banger soon.
The modern music industry sorely needs more socially conscious music, and Dr Pushkin intends to serve us more and more of it.
