According to Spirits Birthday, music saved his life and became his passport to see the world, so he’s giving all his creative endeavors his all, and as he should. The Southern California native, who was born in Anaheim and raised in Carson and in South Central Los Angeles, started his musical journey early when he learned to play drums and produce music in elementary school.
By the time he reached high school, Spirit was involved in the drama club and the band, but it wasn’t until college that he started to understand the fundamentals of being an artist and a musician.
You will be hard pressed to find an artist whose influences are as far-stretched as Spirits Birthday’s. From Pharrell Williams and Marilyn Manson to Yung Lean and Michael Jackson — even Drake gets a nod — it’s all about finding the right combination between past influences, present feelings and future pursuits.
Remaining on the topic of creative influences, it’s not only musicians that pique his interest; Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein are also massive inspirations for Spirits Birthday, who as part of his art, makes a childlike, playful experience when he writes.
“I aspire to show artistic contrast in a charming way,” Spirits Birthday said. “I want the words to jump off the page when fans read my lyrics.”
There is more music on the way in 2024, Spirits Birthday confirmed. He has started working on his freshman album and plans on releasing a music video for his single “Duppy!” in June. Also, keep an eye out for a Spirits Birthday show in your city, as he’s upping the rate he’s performing as part of his plan to achieve artistic success in whichever way he chooses.
