Talking about someone you love can be challenging, let alone putting those feelings into a song, but you can leave it to Phoenix based rapper Lil Christy to find the perfect balance between feelings, real experiences and true inspirations. For his recent track “Cali Dream Girl,” Lil Christy turned to a trusted influence to lay the groundwork: himself.
“The meaning behind this song was inspired by one of my old singles ‘Last Chance’,” Lil Christy explained. “Both songs may have different meanings but the inspiration from ‘Last Chance’ made me want to create a song about a girl that I liked and moved out to California.”
“I had dreams about this girl, and in the song, I talk about that and I talk about the factors of love departing away from each after,” he added. “And how this girl has been in my dreams and just how love can be a big part of your daily life.”
Lil Christy, who self-engineered his latest release, cites his mother and father as primary influences and describes them as “the ones that keep [him] going.” Musically, he’s in tune with the Hyperpop scene, naming fellow young creators Glaive and Midwxst as sonic inspirations.
“I feel these artists have opened the genre of Hyperpop and what sets me apart from these two artists is that I take what they have done in their music and I refurbish it to a style of my liking,” Lil Christy said. “I also tend to create some pop music, and that’s why these guys inspire me because I feel it’s not always about sticking with one genre.”
There’s no stopping Lil Christy and his future plans, which include “continuously dropping music” in order to gather a larger following and set him up for success. Another album may be in store by the end of the year, he added, which would serve as a testament to not only how far he’s come, but how far he’s going.
