“I Just Might” moves past Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” after returning to the top of Billboard’s chart.

Bruno Mars has set a new longevity record on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Billboard reports that “I Just Might” earns its 32nd week at No. 1 on the October 24 chart, surpassing the 31-week run of Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther.”

The total is nonconsecutive, an important distinction in a run that has included interruptions. “I Just Might” returns to the summit after Drake and Don Toliver’s “Solar Eclipse” led the October 17 chart, bringing Mars back for the record-setting week.

During the October 9–15 tracking period, the single generated 5.03 million official U.S. streams and an estimated 51.9 million radio audience impressions. It also sold 1,000 downloads, with streaming, airplay and sales contributing to its position on the combined chart.

The campaign began on January 9, when Atlantic introduced the single as the first preview of The Romantic. That announcement identified the project as Mars’ fourth solo album and set a February 27 release date, making the song the entry point to his new album era.

Mars shares the directing credit with Daniel Ramos on the official video, which adopts a 1970s-inspired look. As iHeart’s release-day report describes, the singer appears on the instruments and behind the DJ setup, extending the performance beyond a single frontman role.

The song had already made a different kind of chart history in January. BMG’s January 21 report identified it as Mars’ first song to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and his tenth leader there overall. This latest achievement concerns longevity on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, not a new Hot 100 debut.
