Brooklyn’s own Premium Mike is an artist with a lot on his mind and a very eloquent way to get all those feelings out. His recent EP “Private Run” about sums that mindstate up.
Combining his primary influence of his own real life experiences with musical inspirations, Premium Mike’s candidness knows no bounds.
“I have a lot of influences that shape my everyday process and creativity…I want to start with my family and friends, [since] without their support, my everyday process wouldn’t be as disciplined as it is,” Mike explained. “There are also musical influences that include the artists I listen to personally.”
As for “Private Run” itself, the 5-song EP is a quick, precise project that revolves around a basketball theme.
“The scheme of this project is so interesting to me because it has this basketball-like nostalgia when it comes to the cover art and the names of the songs,” Mike said. “I’m proud and happy about this body of work because it shows how far I’ve come at being an artist and just being better over time.”
Now, when it comes to next moves, Premium Mike is a busy man. Not only did he just finish up graduate school, he’s constantly working on collaborating with new artists and expanding his musical reach.
And while the focus is always at least partly on new creations, Mike says that he is looking to promote “Private Run,” as he knows the potential it has to run.
“I worked so hard bringing the theme as a whole together, so I would want new listeners to discover this project and me,” Mike said. “I’m not rushing the concept…I always let everything come to me.”
