In the recent years female rappers have been making a major mark in the rap industry. From artists like Cardi B to Meg Thee Stallion; the Queens of hip hop are definitely getting the honor they deserve. In fact, another female rapper who is going crazy rite now has reached our radar. Her name is Pocahontas and she’s from Alabama.
Born Shalonda Underwood on March 3, 1992 in Birmingham. Young Pocahontas grew up in the city of Bessemer, Alabama, which is located minutes outside of Birmingham. This is the same area that Gucci Mane was born and raised. At the age of 15, she moved to Springfield, Massachusetts and lived for 3 years, following the passing of her father. This was a hard time for her. After moving back to her hometown of Birmingham,Young Pocahontas knew she would be great at whatever it was in life. Although, she wasn’t sure what her calling would be. Sometimes, the toughest situations can inspire greatness.
After losing her job in March of 2021, Pocahontas decided to start making music. She released her first single “Big Bag”, on all major platforms in May of 2021. This music video currently sits at over 50,000 views on YouTube. This song has also been played several times on fm stations in Birmingham. She might be the new queen of Birmingham!
