A Miami judge postponed the former NFL receiver’s plea hearing, leaving a proposed agreement that would avoid prison time awaiting court approval.

Antonio Brown will have to wait longer to learn whether a judge will accept his plea deal in a Miami attempted-murder case. His September 30 hearing was moved to October 28 after Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez said an ongoing trial had left her without enough time to review the case materials.

According to the Miami Herald’s courtroom report, defense attorney Mark Eiglarsh said Brown planned to plead no contest to aggravated assault with a firearm. The proposed agreement calls for three years of probation and withheld adjudication, but those terms had not been approved when the hearing ended.

Eiglarsh described the postponement as a setback because Brown would spend another month wearing an ankle monitor while awaiting a resolution. He told reporters he remained “cautiously optimistic” that the judge would accept the agreement, the Associated Press reported.

The case concerns an alleged shooting following a celebrity boxing event in Miami on May 16, 2025. Authorities accuse Brown of taking a gun from a security staffer and firing twice at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu after a fight; Nantambu told investigators that a bullet grazed his neck.

Brown has disputed the allegations and said he acted in self-defense after an attack and an attempt to take his jewelry. He was extradited from Dubai in November 2025 after a warrant was issued in the case, and he has not been convicted of the attempted-murder charge.

Nantambu’s attorney, Richard Cooper, has said his client forgave Brown and no longer wanted to participate in the prosecution. That position has not itself resolved the case: judicial approval of the proposed plea remains pending, with the rescheduled hearing now the next opportunity for the court to consider it.
