Sometimes, things turn out great from the very start. That’s exactly the case with BARCODE813 and his latest track “FUCK IDK.” The Ocean Beach, California native hit the studio with a close collaborator, sat down to record and created an incredible piece of music; all in one fell swoop.
“I hadn’t seen my homie, and now homie-engineer-producer [Colt .45] in a long time, and he had invited me to come check out the studio he works at in West Hollywood,” BARCODE813 said. “After showing me around, we sat down to track, I laid down the song in one take, added some layers and ad-libs and pretty much called it a day.”
The song encapsulates BARCODE’s message of his soon-to-be-released project Don’t Die Waiting, and he even says it’s one of his favorite songs that he’s put together.
For inspiration, the SoCal MC looked within himself and his own experiences to give “FUCK IDK” a raw feel that really informs the listener of one thing: you are hearing a real story from a great storyteller and musical creator.
“At the time I wrote the song, I was in a ‘funny’ headspace to say the least…I just felt super isolated” BARCODE813 said. “Unfortunately, in my life, I’ve always felt unrecognized and misunderstood for a handful of reasons, and just wanted to release all that energy and externalize it on a song while still ‘talking my shit.’”
“I think it’s important to acknowledge the good an the bad, the good with the bad, how you truly feel, your sense of self-awareness and how your actions affect all of the above — and even more importantly, be able to get that stuff off your chest in order to grow as an individual,” he continued. “I think ‘FUCK IDK’ incorporates all of those ideas into this oddly intricate and eloquent art piece in the world of experimental rap.”
Can we expect more quality music from BARCODE813? That answer is a resounding yes; Don’t Die Waiting is two years in the making and is set to be released very soon. Additionally, he’s constantly working on new ideas and arranging live shows and even going on a small tour.
