Dwight Howard Officially Signs with Lakers, Will Wear No. 39

Published on August 27, 2019

Dwight Howard has officially cleared waivers and is once again a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. It was reported last week that the center would be signing a one-year deal with LA and more details have emerged regarding the particulars of the contract.

Similar to the contract the Houston Rockets offered former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett, Howard will be paid $14,490 per day he’s on the team’s roster on a non-protected salary contract.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski also reported that the Lakers stressed to Howard that they will have no qualms in releasing him if he becomes a distraction.

While Laker fans should not be described as optimistic about the return of Howard, most also are realistic about their options and the fact Howard is on a non-guaranteed contract the Lakers can walk away from at any time. That deal is something Bobby Marks of ESPN explains in more detail.
