CHVRCHES are expanding the picture of their next album with a second single shaped by the contradictions of a close relationship.
CHVRCHES have released “Overthinker”, the latest preview of All The King’s Men, due January 22, 2027 through Futures Music Group. The song follows September’s “Roses” and moves the Scottish trio’s return beyond a single opening statement.
Lauren Mayberry describes its central relationship as one in which someone can be “your shelter and your storm.” As Northern Transmissions reports, the song considers the difficulty of living alongside that contradiction, bringing an intimate subject into the album campaign.
The release follows a small charity performance at Assumption Studios in Glasgow, the converted church where the album was recorded. The show brought 100 fans into a space directly connected to the new music’s creation.
For this record, Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty returned to working together in person. Under the Radar notes that the sessions took place in three-week stretches in Glasgow, contrasting with the remote process behind 2021’s Screen Violence.
The musicians also arrive with experiences developed outside the group. Mayberry released her solo debut Vicious Creature in 2024, while Doherty formed The Leaving with Jonny Scott and released Ultimate Buzz earlier this year.
The 11-track album will be followed by touring across North America, the UK and Ireland. Announced dates begin February 13 in Philadelphia and run through May 6 in London, giving “Overthinker” a clear place within a return that extends from the studio into next spring’s shows.
