The Weeknd has added another city-inspired song to his tour, introducing Hong Kong with a connection to one of Cantopop’s most recognizable voices.
The Weeknd debuted “Hong Kong” at Kai Tak Stadium on October 24, opening a four-show visit with a song named for the city hosting him. The performance brought new material into the After Hours Til Dawn tour rather than announcing a conventional streaming release.
The track incorporates Faye Wong’s 1993 song “Seasonal Wind”, according to DJ Mag. Wong’s presence extends into the accompanying visuals, connecting the new performance to a recording familiar within Hong Kong’s pop history.
The screen presentation was central to the debut. Footage celebrating Hong Kong appeared behind the singer, giving the audience a city-specific setting for the song rather than a generic tour backdrop.
Director Evan Larsen told the South China Morning Post that the video came together in about a week before the concert. He linked its appeal to memories of Hong Kong in the late 1980s and early 1990s, making nostalgia an intentional part of its approach.
The premiere follows “Tokyo,” which he introduced in Japan, and “Rio,” his collaboration with Anitta first performed in the Brazilian city. Those appearances give the current tour a developing sequence of songs tied directly to particular stops.
“Hong Kong” remains a live unveiling, with the performance and visual providing the concrete first look. No broader album announcement accompanied the reports of its debut, leaving the city tribute, Wong sample and stadium presentation at the center of this latest chapter.
