Cleveland survived an explosive Anthony Edwards performance, handing Minnesota its first loss of the season in overtime.
Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat Minnesota 127-125 on October 26. The overtime result moved Cleveland to 2-1 and ended the Timberwolves’ unbeaten start after three victories.
Anthony Edwards led all scorers with 47 points, giving Minnesota the game’s largest individual offensive contribution. Cleveland countered with a more distributed scoring effort, with every member of its starting lineup reaching double figures.
Mitchell paired his scoring with seven assists, while James Harden added 19 points and nine assists. That combination helped the Cavaliers keep creating offense even when the contest extended beyond regulation.
Minnesota led 60-50 at halftime, but Cleveland answered with a 36-point third quarter. The teams entered the fourth tied at 86 and remained level at 113 after regulation, setting up an overtime period that was decided by only two points.
Late free throws helped Cleveland protect its lead, with Harden and Peyton Watson both converting pairs in the final stretch. Edwards made a three-pointer at the end, but the Cavaliers had built enough of a cushion to finish ahead.
The result left the Timberwolves at 3-1 despite Edwards’ standout night. Cleveland’s answer was not a matching individual scoring explosion, but a combination of Mitchell’s production, support across the starting lineup and crucial points at the line.
