Luka Dončić’s first 50-point game of the new season helped the Lakers turn an early double-digit deficit into another victory.
Luka Dončić scored 52 points as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz 132-123 on October 25. The performance kept Los Angeles unbeaten through three games and gave the NBA its first 50-point outing of the season.
The Lakers had to recover from an 18-point deficit in the second quarter. Dončić helped complete that first-half turnaround with a stepback three-pointer in the final seconds, sending Los Angeles into the break ahead 74-71.
He finished with eight three-pointers, including consecutive makes late in the fourth quarter that pushed the Lakers ahead 127-121. Those baskets capped a 14-5 run and gave Los Angeles room to close out the game rather than surrender its comeback.
Austin Reaves added 29 points, making the backcourt partnership central to the win. Together, the two guards accounted for 81 of the Lakers’ 132 points, a little over three-fifths of the team’s total.
Utah had multiple scoring threats of its own, with Lauri Markkanen contributing 28 points and Keyonte George adding 24, according to the game report. The Jazz’s early cushion nevertheless proved insufficient once Dončić and Reaves took control of the scoring.
The win left the Lakers at 3-0 heading into their next game against Portland. For this night, the story was both individual and collective: a 52-point headline, supported by enough offense elsewhere to turn a difficult start into a road win.
