The planned remix tool would require voluntary participation and direct listeners back to the original recordings.
Spotify and Believe announced an agreement on October 20 covering planned AI-assisted fan remixes and covers. Participating Believe and TuneCore artists would enter a licensed system.
Spotify’s announcement describes two stages of consent. Artists first opt into consideration for AI programs, then separately decide whether to join this particular partnership.
The proposed tool concerns reinterpretations of existing songs. It is not presented as permission to generate entirely new works using every artist’s catalog.
The companies plan a paid add-on for Premium subscribers. They have not announced its price or a launch date, so it is not yet an available subscription feature.
Streams of participating remixes are intended to generate royalties for the original artists and rights holders. Each remix would also connect listeners back to its source recording and artist.
The practical question for artists is therefore specific: whether to permit this use of their work under the offered terms. A distribution relationship with Believe or TuneCore alone does not mean an artist has agreed to participate.
