John Legend and Pharrell Williams pair orchestral scale with an intimate story of hardship and resilience in the official video for “Fireflies.”

John Legend has released the music video for “Fireflies,” featuring Pharrell Williams, offering another glimpse of their forthcoming album collaboration, Muse. The September 25 release follows “Daylight” and brings the song’s reflections on loss and hope into a narrative that looks beyond the performance itself.

Directed by Paul Hunter, the video places Legend at the piano with the Hollywood Cinematic Orchestra while also following intimate portraits of life in a housing project. Produced by PRETTYBIRD with creative direction from P.INC, it moves between the scale of the musical presentation and the everyday circumstances at the center of the story.

That contrast gives the visual its purpose: the orchestral setting opens the song outward, while the human scenes bring its concerns back into focus. The emphasis on resilience allows room for encouragement without treating hardship as something that can simply be wished away.

Muse is scheduled for release on October 23 through Republic Records, with Pharrell producing the entire album and sharing in its writing. It marks the pair’s first full album together, turning a friendship of more than two decades into a sustained creative partnership rather than a single guest appearance.

The project took shape after Legend contributed vocals to Clipse’s “The Birds Don’t Sing” on Let God Sort ’Em Out. That performance inspired Pharrell to develop an album around Legend’s voice, with the collaborators subsequently writing and recording at Pharrell’s studio in Louis Vuitton’s Paris headquarters.

“Fireflies” gives that partnership a human focus, connecting the sweep of its presentation to a story concerned with endurance and the possibility of light.
