Kodak Black turns Drake’s “Little Birdie” into a vehicle for his own reflections on loyalty, disappointment and survival in a new video.

Kodak Black has released the official video for “Lil Birdie,” putting his own words and vocal approach over the instrumental from Drake’s “Little Birdie.” Arriving on September 30, the release uses that familiar foundation to make room for a performance that moves between wounded reflection and defiance.

The connection to Drake is central to the record’s starting point, but Kodak does more than reproduce the original. His version adds a different set of experiences and concerns, shifting the focus toward the friction between the loyalty he offers and the treatment he feels he receives.

Disappointment gives the writing much of its emotional weight. Kodak describes wanting affection returned, feeling that others are entertained by his pain and struggling to express sadness, allowing moments of vulnerability to interrupt the tougher posture of the surrounding bars.

Those admissions sit alongside references to jewelry, money and the street experiences that continue to shape the narrator’s outlook. The contrast is the record’s most compelling tension: material success becomes part of the story without being presented as an answer to everything troubling him.

The visual gives the release an unpolished, everyday setting, with a nighttime outdoor scene placing Kodak beneath a shelter as ducks gather on the grass nearby. That ordinary backdrop makes an interesting counterpoint to the larger claims in the lyrics, keeping the presentation grounded rather than turning it into a glossy luxury showcase.

“Lil Birdie” works as a reinterpretation with its own emotional center, not simply another opportunity to recognize a familiar beat.
