Meek Mill is taking another step toward bringing his “YN” movie concept to the screen, publicly reaching out to veteran film producer Andrea Barata Ribeiro for help shaping the project.
Meek Mill is looking to expand his creative ambitions beyond music with a movie centered on what he describes as the “YN” experience. The Philadelphia rapper recently called on Andrea Barata Ribeiro, a producer behind the acclaimed Brazilian crime drama City of God, as he works to turn the idea into a full film project.
Meek made the appeal publicly on X, writing, “Can somebody get me in contact with Andrea Barata Ribeiro? I need her to help me with this YN movie I wanna make! I want it to be a real movie not just some rap shit!” The message makes his intentions clear: rather than treating the project as an extended music video or promotional vehicle, Meek wants to build something with the scope and credibility of a serious feature film.
The choice of Ribeiro points toward the kind of tone Meek may be pursuing. City of God, directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund, became internationally celebrated for its intense depiction of young people growing up amid poverty, violence and organized crime in Rio de Janeiro. Ribeiro served as one of the film’s producers, and the movie went on to earn four Academy Award nominations, including Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
