Federal prosecutors claim Lil Durk rejected an attempt to end his feud with Quando Rondo months after the 2022 Los Angeles shooting at the center of his murder-for-hire case.
Lil Durk is facing a new prosecution claim ahead of his federal trial, with prosecutors alleging that he turned down a “peace offering” connected to Quando Rondo in December 2022. The allegation appears in an August 17 trial memorandum that prosecutors plan to use as they argue the alleged conspiracy continued beyond the fatal Los Angeles shooting earlier that year.
According to Complex, prosecutors say they recently identified a text-message thread and voice memo in which an affiliate of Quando Rondo allegedly reached out to “squash” the rivalry. The government claims Durk rejected that effort and referenced his late brother DThang and his friend and labelmate King Von while explaining why he would not agree to peace.
Prosecutors contend the December 2022 exchange is relevant because it could support their argument that Durk remained an active participant in the alleged conspiracy after the August 19 shooting. They also say the evidence speaks to his alleged leadership role and motive, while countering any suggestion that he merely knew about the shooting without taking part in arranging it.
The underlying case centers on an attack near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles that prosecutors say was intended to kill Quando Rondo. Rondo survived, but his cousin Saviay’a Robinson was fatally shot. Federal authorities allege Durk ordered and financed the attempted hit as retaliation for King Von’s 2020 killing, an accusation Durk has denied through his not-guilty plea.
Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, was charged in 2024 with conspiracy and murder-for-hire-related offenses stemming from the shooting. The Justice Department has stressed that the indictment contains allegations and that every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The new filing arrives just before Durk’s trial, scheduled to begin August 20, following a series of pretrial disputes over what evidence jurors will be allowed to hear. Complex reported that Durk’s attorneys were contacted for comment on the newly cited message thread as the case moves toward opening arguments.
