Laurance: Heart, Grit, and Sound Without Borders

In a music landscape saturated with trends and filters, Laurance emerges as a rare, raw force of emotional honesty and sonic rebellion. Formed in 2022, the Boise-based artist collective—made up of frontman and vocalist Brian “Laurance,” producer-engineer Elijah, and songwriter-vocalist Phil (known as Philly Chee)—is creating more than music. They’re creating connection.

Laurance stands for something deeper than catchy hooks and polished visuals. Rooted in authenticity, their music reaches for something real—grief, growth, purpose, and the pursuit of human connection in a world that often feels increasingly disconnected.

“We’re not just making songs. We’re creating a space where people feel seen, accepted, and supported,” says Brian. “Our mantra is simple: build each other up. That’s what Laurance is about.”

Born from Pain, Powered by Purpose

Music was always present in the lives of the Laurance members—from punk bands in high school to beat-making and songwriting across genres. But it wasn’t until a life-changing moment in 2020 that the vision truly began to take shape. That year, Brian’s father, Laurance Kevin, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. The loss was devastating—and transformative.

“I spent my whole life trying to play professional baseball,” Brian reflects. “When that dream ended after college, I felt lost. And then I lost my dad. But through making music with Eli and Phil, I found healing—and I found my purpose.”

Laurance isn’t just a name. It’s a tribute to the man who helped shape Brian’s values, integrity, and outlook on life. It’s the emotional spine behind the music and the reason this group doesn’t hold anything back.

Making Noise and Making Moves

In their short time together, Laurance has already made impressive waves. During their earliest stages, they entered a global song competition hosted by DJ Khaled—and finished in the Top 30 worldwide. That recognition was the push they needed to go all in.

Since then, Laurance has opened for major acts including Afroman, Masta Killa of Wu-Tang Clan, Chiddy Bang, Def-I, and Sol. They’ve also played on major stages such as the Boise Music Festival, sharing the lineup with stars like Jelly Roll, Cee-Lo Green, and Ludacris, and performed at Treefort Music Fest, a five-day festival that brings artists from across the globe to downtown Boise.

“We pride ourselves on being genre-fluid,” Elijah says. “It’s not about fitting in—it’s about breaking molds and speaking truth. Every track is a new chapter.”

The Sound of Now: “Foxy Mama” and “Hey Pretender”

Laurance’s recent release, “Foxy Mama,” is a bold blend of retro groove, emotional swagger, and modern alternative edge. With gritty basslines and silky vocals, it captures everything fans love about the band—rawness, rhythm, and soul.

And the best part? There’s more on the way.

Their upcoming single, “Hey Pretender,” is set to drop in early August and promises a continued evolution in sound and storytelling. If “Foxy Mama” is the invitation, “Hey Pretender” is the spark that fans won’t forget.

“We want people to dance, cry, scream, and feel with us,” says Phil. “That’s what music is supposed to do.”

What’s Next for Laurance?

Looking ahead, Laurance has one clear goal: growth.

The group is determined to take their message and music on the road—connecting with fans face-to-face, sharing stages with more artists, and building a platform that lets them leave behind their day jobs in the service industry to pursue their passion full-time.

“Our dream is simple,” Brian says. “To connect with people through music and create a space that feels like home. If we can make someone feel loved and less alone through a song—we’ve done our job.”

Final Word

Laurance isn’t chasing clout. They’re chasing connection.

With emotionally charged lyrics, genre-bending style, and a commitment to community, Laurance is more than just a band—they’re a movement. And with tracks like “Foxy Mama” out now and “Hey Pretender” on the way, they’re just getting started.

Welcome to Laurance. The sound of vulnerability. The voice of rebellion. The music of the moment.
