The 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has been impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives. Trump becomes just the third president in the nation’s history to be impeached.
The House Majority drafted articles of impeachment on the basis of withholding defense aid from Ukraine in exchange for information on his political opponent Joe Biden (and son Hunter Biden), as well as obstruction of Congress.
The next phase will be a trial held by the U.S. Senate, who will decide whether or not the president will be removed from office. It is important to note that the Democratic majority in the House led to Wednesday’s impeachment and it is unlikely the Republican-led Senate will convict the president and have him removed from office.
