Tiffany Haddish Resolves Four-Year Georgia DUI Case Without Additional Jail Time

Tiffany Haddish has brought her long-running Georgia DUI case to a close after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge. The comedian and actress entered the plea by video on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, as her trial was preparing to begin in Fayette County. The agreement allows Haddish to avoid additional time behind bars more than four years after the arrest that initiated the legal proceedings.

According to the Associated Press, Haddish was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to stay away from drugs and alcohol. She must also complete a substance abuse evaluation as part of the sentence. The court credited her for the brief period she spent in jail following her arrest, while the remaining charges filed against her were dismissed under the agreement.

The case originated during the early morning hours of January 14, 2022, after a 911 caller reported seeing someone who appeared to be asleep behind the wheel of a white Ford Explorer at a traffic light in Peachtree City. The caller said the driver’s foot was on the brake while the vehicle remained stopped. An officer later spotted an SUV matching the description and stopped Haddish as she pulled into a nearby neighborhood.

Haddish was taken into custody and released on bond, but the case remained unresolved for more than four years. Her attorneys eventually asked the court to dismiss the charges, arguing that the extended delay had created personal and professional difficulties while violating her constitutional right to a speedy trial. The defense maintained that the pending case complicated international travel and affected Haddish’s ability to pursue certain work opportunities.

Fayette County State Court Judge Jason Thompson rejected the dismissal request before the plea agreement was reached. The judge determined that Haddish and her legal team were responsible for some of the delays, including a postponement requested so she could attend a fashion event in Morocco. Thompson also found that the defense had not produced specific evidence showing that the case caused Haddish to lose performances or suffer measurable financial damage.

The Georgia case was separate from Haddish’s November 2023 arrest in Beverly Hills, where police responded after she was reportedly found slumped over the wheel of a vehicle with its engine running. That matter was resolved in February 2024 when Haddish pleaded no contest to a vehicle code violation. As part of that agreement, prosecutors dropped the two misdemeanor DUI charges that had originally been filed against her.

With the Georgia proceedings now resolved, Haddish can move forward without the threat of another trial or additional jail time, although she must comply with the conditions of her probation. The outcome closes a legal chapter that remained active for more than four years and repeatedly returned her name to the headlines.
