Charlotte will honor one of its original players when Muggsy Bogues’ number joins those of Bobby Phills and Dell Curry.

Muggsy Bogues’ jersey retirement is set for February 11, 2027, when the Charlotte Hornets host Milwaukee at Spectrum Center. The team announced the honor Tuesday, giving its longtime point guard a permanent place among the franchise’s most celebrated figures.

Bogues will become the third Hornets player to have his number retired. His No. 1 will join Phills’ No. 13 and Curry’s No. 30, linking three former teammates in an exclusive part of the organization’s history.

Across 632 appearances for Charlotte, Bogues averaged 8.8 points and 8.8 assists, along with 2.9 rebounds. As theScore reports, he remains the club’s career leader in assists and steals, a record of production that reaches beyond his distinction as the NBA’s shortest player.

Washington selected the Wake Forest guard 12th in the 1987 draft before Charlotte acquired him in the following year’s expansion draft. He helped establish the Hornets’ identity during their early seasons, later playing for Golden State and Toronto during a 14-season NBA career.

The recognition also extends beyond his playing years. In its announcement, quoted by Yahoo Sports, the organization highlighted more than two decades of involvement as a player and ambassador, alongside his service to the Charlotte community.

For Bogues, the ceremony will be a chance to reconnect that history with the people who shared it. “To have my number retired alongside Bobby and Dell is an incredible honor,” he said. February’s celebration will bring that connection back to the court where the current Hornets carry the franchise forward.
