The Wu-Tang rapper returned to Madison Square Garden on October 20, bringing selections from his solo and collaborative catalog to New York’s championship celebration.
Method Man performed at halftime of the New York Knicks season opener against Philadelphia on October 20 at Madison Square Garden. He dressed for the occasion in an orange Knicks cap and blue satin team jacket, matching the colors of the defending champions.
XXL’s October 21 report identifies “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By” and “Da Rockwilder” among the selections, revisiting his recordings with Mary J. Blige and Redman. USA Today’s live coverage also reported a performance of “Method Man,” adding a Wu-Tang-era selection to the set.
The Blige collaboration won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 1996 Grammys, a milestone shared by the two artists. “Da Rockwilder” followed on Method Man and Redman’s Blackout!, which was released in September 1999, putting both records firmly within his 1990s catalog.
The Garden appearance followed Method Man’s halftime performance with Wu-Tang Clan during Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals. That earlier set included “Bring da Ruckus” and “C.R.E.A.M.,” after which he delivered the “Knicks in 5” prediction that the team went on to fulfill.
Before Tuesday’s game, the franchise marked its title with a championship ring and banner ceremony, with Mike Breen serving as host. The Jason of Beverly Hills rings included the team’s blue-and-orange identity, an opening top revealing the Garden’s interior and “Knicks in Five” engraved on the band.
Fat Joe, Spike Lee, Ben Stiller and Tracy Morgan were also among the familiar faces at the opener. The basketball result was less celebratory for New York, which finished with a 106-100 loss to the 76ers after the championship festivities and halftime performance.
