He played the saxophone throughout high school and dedicated four years to the East Carolina Drumline. His passion for music deepened after the tragic loss of his father in 2011 and an older brother, leading him to explore rapping as a form of therapy. The name “Fiiinesse,” spelled with three I’s, pays homage to being the third in his family line, and his music serves as a heartfelt tribute to his family.
Over his career, Fiiinesse has performed in over 100 venues, and he considers this season a breakout moment for his artistry. Notable highlights include his ability to curate a sound that blends percussive flows, big band influences, and meticulously arranged compositions.
Throughout his journey, Fiiinesse has faced numerous challenges, including the loss of loved ones, finding his unique sound amidst diverse influences, and identifying his target audience. Additionally, Fiiinesse has overcome hurdles related to his image, transitioning from a previous rap name to fully embodying the essence of Fiiinesse. Growing up in poverty and experiencing homelessness during high school, his music reflects his maturation from boyhood to self-sufficient adulthood, capturing his journey through hip-hop.
Looking ahead, Fiiinesse envisions himself performing on larger stages and expanding his audience. He dreams of becoming a resident artist and a staple in Austin’s music scene, contributing to making Austin hip-hop a significant force in the mainstream. The artist is currently working on his upcoming album/EP titled “Blk Sommelier,” set to drop in December 2024. This project features tracks such as “After It,” “Let it Breathe,” “2 Late,” “Pie,” and “We Ain’t Goin Nowhere.” “Blk Sommelier” is inspired by the idea of a diverse, rich collection of sounds curated as if by a sommelier, showcasing a variety of textures and feelings within the hip-hop genre. The album will be available in two versions: a six-track feature and a 15-track comprehensive collection.
