He then turned his attention to James, saying, “I think LeBron is, maybe he’s a racist, but maybe he doesn’t like Trump. I don’t know. I only like people that like me, so I would say Michael Jordan all the way.”

The comments came shortly after James revealed that he would leave the Los Angeles Lakers and continue his career with the Philadelphia 76ers. The 41-year-old called the move his “last decision” and said he still believes he can help a team compete for a championship. Trump and James have publicly criticized each other for years. James supported Trump’s opponents in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential elections, while Trump previously attacked the NBA star’s intelligence after James accused him of using sports to divide Americans. Their strained relationship also intensified in 2017 after James defended Stephen Curry during the controversy surrounding the Golden State Warriors’ proposed White House visit.
Despite Trump’s remarks, James’ move has generated major excitement in Philadelphia. The four-time NBA champion will join a roster featuring Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and VJ Edgecombe as the 76ers continue their pursuit of a first championship since 1983. James is preparing to enter a record-extending 24th NBA season after spending eight years with the Lakers.
