Captain Mac OD33: Building a Career on Authenticity, Versatility & Real-Life Experience
Marietta, Georgia artist Captain Mac OD33 is building her career around authenticity, versatility, and one core belief: an artist should be an asset, not a liability.
Born and raised in Marietta, Captain Mac OD33 began creating music around the age of 10 or 11. Her creative journey started with poetry before evolving into music through some unconventional early experimentation—including recording through PowerPoint before eventually developing into the artist and performer she is today.
Her musical foundation was shaped by a wide range of influences, including Usher, Missy Elliott, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Beyoncé, Ludacris, T.I., and Lil Wayne. Hip-hop and pop culture played a major role in her development, but her appreciation for music stretches far beyond her own generation.
Her grandparents introduced her to older music at an early age. Riding around with them and spending time with her Big-daddy, who regularly played vinyl records, exposed Captain Mac to different eras, sounds, and styles that helped shape her musical perspective.
But for Captain Mac, becoming a successful artist requires much more than simply making good music.
“Talent is only half the battle.”
She believes artists must develop their marketability, learn how to connect with people, and become comfortable showing their personalities. Being sociable, relatable, vulnerable, and unapologetically individual are all important parts of building a lasting career.
Connecting Beyond the Music
Captain Mac brings that same mindset to the stage.
For her, performing means knowing the lyrics, understanding how to work a crowd, preparing the proper performance and show mixes, and creating an experience rather than simply performing songs.
She interacts with her audience, asks how they’re feeling, incorporates call-and-response moments, and sometimes turns portions of her lyrics over to the crowd. When a hook is catchy enough, she allows the audience to become part of the performance.
That connection is one of the most rewarding parts of being an artist for her.
After putting her emotions, experiences, and energy into a project, seeing someone genuinely connect with the music hits differently. The same is true when someone approaches her after a performance to express support or explain how a song connected with them.
For an artist who has experienced being overlooked and criticized, those moments carry even more weight.
Authenticity Over Image
One of the defining characteristics of Captain Mac OD33 is her refusal to manufacture a lifestyle simply because it might look good on social media or sound good in a song.
What you see is what you get.
If she posts content from a particular location, she has actually been there. If she’s filming in her backyard, that’s genuinely where she is. She has even shared herself working and making Domino’s deliveries because she isn’t interested in pretending the grind doesn’t exist.
There’s no shame in showing the work behind the dream.
Captain Mac has experienced making thousands of dollars and losing thousands of dollars, and she’s comfortable allowing people to see both sides of the journey. The wins matter, but so do the setbacks, because they’re all part of her story.
That same philosophy carries into her music.
She doesn’t want to portray herself as someone she’s not or create an identity centered around violence simply because that image might be marketable.
When Captain Mac raps about traveling to places such as Italy and Turkey, it’s because she’s actually experienced those places.
She’s been an athlete. She’s traveled internationally. She’s experienced success, made mistakes, worked regular jobs, taken losses, and faced difficult situations. Those experiences give her more than enough material to create from without fabricating a lifestyle.
Even when she creates harder music, the emotions behind it come from real thoughts and experiences. At the same time, she approaches those emotions with maturity and discernment because she understands she has something to lose.
Her experience with incarceration reinforced that perspective.
Captain Mac has experienced jail firsthand—even if only for 24 hours—and she doesn’t romanticize it. She remembers hating the experience, dealing with significant legal expenses, and continuing to face consequences afterward.
The lesson was clear.
She’s not interested in becoming a “crash dummy” for an image.
She would rather become an asset.
That distinction is central to the way Captain Mac views both her life and career. While some artists allow an image or lifestyle to eventually become a liability, she wants to build something sustainable while continuing to learn, evolve, and grow.
She considers herself a student of the game.
Creating Outside the Box
Captain Mac isn’t limiting her creative development to music.
She’s invested in her own camera equipment, allowing her to create more content, expand her reach, and develop her platforms without always depending on someone else to bring her ideas to life.
It’s another example of her becoming more self-sufficient while learning to control her own visual presentation and brand.
She’s also developing an interest in tattooing and sharing that journey through her platforms, giving supporters another opportunity to see the different sides of her creativity.
Outside of music and content creation, Captain Mac is active in gaming and sports. She streams video games on Twitch under @cptod33 and regularly plays Call of Duty on PlayStation.
She’s also joined the Peaches and Hoops team, adding another dimension to a brand that extends beyond the recording studio.
And when she isn’t creating music, gaming, playing basketball, working, or developing content, there’s a good chance she’s traveling.
Travel remains one of her passions, whether she’s exploring another part of the United States or heading overseas. Closer to home, she can also be found staying active and working out around Kennesaw Mountain.
More Than a Music Career
Captain Mac OD33’s story is about building a career without losing the woman behind the music.
She’s building from Marietta, Georgia, with a willingness to show people the entire journey—the work, setbacks, wins, mistakes, travel, creativity, music, and everything in between.
In an industry where artists can sometimes feel pressured to manufacture an image before they’ve even established their identity, Captain Mac is choosing a different path.
She’s betting on authenticity.
She’s betting on versatility.
She’s betting on herself.
Most importantly, Captain Mac OD33 is focused on becoming an artist whose real-life experiences give her music something that a manufactured image never could: a story that’s actually hers.
