BigXthaPlug’s latest arrest disrupted a major festival booking in Canada, though the Dallas rapper was back onstage less than a day later.
BigXthaPlug missed his scheduled Country Rising Festival performance in Winnipeg after being arrested in Texas on Friday, August 21. The festival told fans the rapper would no longer appear because of a “personal emergency,” while reports of his arrest emerged the same day.
According to People, the artist, born Xavier Landum, was arrested by the Allen Police Department and booked into the Collin County Jail. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The timing immediately affected his touring schedule. BigXthaPlug had been due to perform Friday at the third annual Country Rising Festival at Blue Cross Park in Winnipeg, but the set did not happen after organizers announced his absence.
The arrest also fell exactly one year after Landum was arrested in the Dallas area on August 21, 2025, on marijuana and firearm-related charges. Authorities have not publicly detailed the circumstances that led to Friday’s latest arrest beyond confirming the charges.
Despite missing Country Rising, BigXthaPlug was released in time to travel to Des Moines and headline the Iowa State Fair Grandstand on Saturday, August 22. Video from the performance showed him acknowledging the uncertainty around the appearance, telling the crowd, “They didn’t think I was coming.”
The quick return to the stage meant the Country Rising cancellation was the immediate casualty of the legal situation rather than the start of a broader weekend shutdown. The arrest nevertheless adds another legal issue for the rapper as his profile continues to expand across both hip-hop and country audiences.
