Alabama is a state that has been on the come up recently in the music industry. From artists like Yung Bleu to No Cap and Big Yavo, Alabama has definitely made its presence known! Along with the artists, the Alabama dj’s are also on the rise! Meet DJ Savage aka Mickey Dunning. According to Savage, “I fell in love wit music at birth.” Savage was born in Mobile, Al in the Toulminville community. His Dad was a musician and made sure his son was one as well.
Savage began playing instruments such as bass guitar, drums and piano while still a child. It wasn’t until he attended Miles College (Birmingham, Alabama) when he found a desire in being a dj. With the help of his hype man TTU, they became a dominate force for entertainment on the campus. Turning sports games, events and even the lunch hour into what seemed like a college version of Rollin Loud! Savage chose to pursue both being a full time dj and musician.
He eventually struck the attention of Posa, an artist signed with Think It’s A Game Records. Building this relationship was monumental in Savage’s career; Posa and Savage went on to do a regional tour. Savage and TTU’s huge college influence was a driving force, helping the pair get to the level they are at now. Think It’s A Game took notice and decided to bring Savage on board as an official TIG DJ. Currently he’s one of the head dj’s along with Birmingham’s DJ Cuzzo. Recently DJ Savage’s popularity has grown greatly, on both social media and in the clubs. Savage is the true definition of a “blend master”.
Savage now uses his platform to discover and promote rising artists, providing a chance to be heard wherever he is performing. According to Savage, “sometimes this road can be difficult, artists can disrespectful, impatient and arrogant.” This led to DJ Savage dropping his first song entitled “Pay Me”. Savage also released a Mixtape entitled “Girl Boss” featuring Love & Hip Hop Miami star Nikki Natural.
This project helped build his recognition in the City of Atlanta. Savage is now the portal for music flow from Alabama to Atlanta. Connecting back with his hometown he now has Mobile behind his movement. He is also a musician at Revelation Church Ministries.
