Hailing from Jamaica, Marcus Antonio is a powerhouse artist who is proving that he’s here to stay with his innate ability as an instrumentalist and his eclectic palette for music genres, creating for himself a totally unique sound that sets him apart from other Caribbean artists.
Finding early success with the release of his first song, “Future”, Marcus followed that up with his track, “Girls all Around” in 2013. With a growing fanbase, positive feedback, and a #3 charting song titled “Your Love”, Young Marky was confident in his calling and has shown no signs of stopping ever since.
The road to the top hasn’t always been easy for Marcus, and the longer he remained in the industry, the more he could see its true colors, which caused him to step away from his dreams. He states:
“I was doing music for so long, and I felt like nothing was working.”
However, after a well-needed sabbatical, a big move, and a career switch, Marcus was ready to take off–the right way. During his time off, he developed computer engineering skills, which ultimately led him to develop his skill set in sound engineering as a studio producer.
After his 2018 stint on American Idol, Marcus finally parted ways with his “Young Marky” identity. He notes:
“‘Young Marky’ sounded like a rapper name, but Marcus Antonio sounds like a brand.”
Soon after this transformation, his style evolved and he fully stepped out of his comfort zone, and ever since, he has released music ranging from R&B to pop, country, Jazz, and Blues. His latest single, “Winner” dropped earlier this year, and is the perfect mashup of R&B and Reggae. The single gained serious attention, with well over 18k people streaming the single’s debut online. His fan base is clearly impressed and is eagerly awaiting more. So, Marcus is ready to do something he’s never done before, fusing Caribbean music with other genres, and is working on writing and producing his next project which will debut later this year.
