DaBaby Sentenced to One Year of Probation for Walmart Shooting Case

DaBaby was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation for his involvement in a fatal shooting in Huntersville, North Carolina last November. 19-year-old Jalyn Craig was shot and killed Nov. 5 during a fight in the store. DaBaby was never charged with the killing, but he was hit with the misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm.

Speaking with North Carolina’s The Charlotte Observer Friday (June 28), Mecklenburg District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Meghan McDonald said the 2019 XXL Freshman has been found guilty of carrying a concealed firearm, and as result of that judgment, he’s been sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation. The publication says police tell them they don’t plan to pursue any other charges against DaBaby.

In the story, DaBaby confirmed that he was involved with the shooting and said that the safety of not only himself but his family was threatened when someone approached him in the Walmart.

DaBaby posted a video where he revealed that he was shopping with his 1-year-old and 5-year-old and their mother “when someone pulled a gun and ‘tried to take my life.'” He added, “Daughter could have got hit, son could have got hit (and) me. Lawyers … telling me not to say nothing … But two (people) walk down on you and your whole … family, threatening ya’ll [sic.], whip out (a gun) on ya’ll [sic.], let me see what ya’ll [sic.] going to do.”

“These niggas see me buying baby clothes and these niggas wanna come and show me how tough they is and shit,” DaBaby said without saying that he’d actually fired a gun. “Come on, my nigga, quit playing. I really don’t give a fuck how y’all feel. A nigga tried to take my life in front of my 1-year-old daughter.”

This news arrives nearly three months after it was reported that DaBaby’s charge for carrying a concealed firearm was dropped because a witness didn’t appear in court. Prosecutors in the state are allowed to re-charge a defendant if that happens, and so that’s what they did in the case of DaBaby.
