Austin Reaves paired efficient scoring with nine assists as Walker Kessler’s two-way production helped the Lakers beat the Clippers on October 23.
Austin Reaves scored 28 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 125-117 win over the Clippers on October 23, giving the team a second victory to begin the season. He reached that total on just 13 field-goal attempts, making 10 shots and adding nine assists.
Reaves also connected on three of five attempts from beyond the arc, a useful combination of volume and efficiency in a game the Lakers had to close out. His line in the final box score included two steals, although six turnovers kept it from being a flawless offensive night.
Walker Kessler finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and six blocks, producing at both baskets alongside Reaves. He made 10 of 14 shots and added three assists and three steals, giving Los Angeles a substantial contribution that extended well beyond finishing around the rim.
The Lakers created separation by winning the third quarter 39-26 after the teams reached halftime tied at 64. That stretch was decisive in the shape of the game: the Clippers won the final period, but could not erase the advantage Los Angeles had built.
Luka Doncic added 23 points, six rebounds and seven assists, while Ziaire Williams, Matisse Thybulle and Quentin Grimes also reached double figures. The spread of scoring meant the Lakers did not need one player to carry every possession, even on a night with too many giveaways.
The October 23 win still left room to improve: Los Angeles committed 21 turnovers despite shooting 58.2 percent from the field. Reaves’ shot-making and Kessler’s defensive work gave the Lakers enough to win this matchup, but protecting possessions remains the obvious way to make that production travel further.
