Rapper SKIP-DAWG Uses ‘Lyrical Playboy’ Comeback to Spotlight Collapsed Lung Sufferers

Published on October 23, 2026

Veteran Pennsylvania rapper SKIP-DAWG makes a remarkable return to music with his latest single, ‘Lyrical Playboy’, following nearly a decade away from recording after suffering more than 20 collapsed lungs and undergoing eight major lung surgeries.

Blending hip-hop, sensual R&B and touches of alternative rock, the new release marks a significant chapter for the Havertown-born artist, who is using his comeback to raise awareness of recurrent collapsed lungs and the lasting physical and emotional impact of the condition.

Having previously released five albums and secured music placements across platforms including NBC, the NFL and Grand Theft Auto, SKIP-DAWG saw his career interrupted by serious health complications that forced him to step away from recording.

Over the years, he has experienced more than 20 collapsed lungs and undergone eight major surgeries, leaving him with significant nerve damage and severe chronic chest pain.

Now returning to the studio, the rapper is reclaiming the creative identity that illness forced him to put aside.

His latest single, ‘Lyrical Playboy’, explores the contrast between his everyday personality and the more confident, expressive alter ego that emerges through his music.

“‘Lyrical Playboy’ is really about the two sides of me,” SKIP-DAWG explains. “There’s the regular person I am in everyday life, and then there’s SKIP-DAWG, a more confident and expressive version of myself that comes out through the music.”

Built around reflective rap verses and a seductive R&B hook, the mid-tempo track balances introspection with swagger, bringing a cinematic atmosphere to the artist’s established hip-hop sound.

While its lyrics explore confidence, attraction and self-expression, the release also represents something more personal: the opportunity to reconnect with a part of himself after years dominated by medical treatment and recovery.

Alongside his return to music, SKIP-DAWG is drawing attention to what he describes as Bleb Disease, a condition associated with his experiences of recurrent collapsed lungs.

Through the Collapsed Lung Project, he hopes to highlight the physical pain, emotional trauma and long-term complications experienced by people living with recurrent pneumothorax.

“After living with Bleb Disease for 20 years, after having tried an extraordinary number of measures to manage my chronic health and lung issues, and now after having read thousands of personal accounts astonishingly similar to mine, I feel resolved to speak on behalf of a club that no one wants to belong to: collapsed lung sufferers,” he says.

“Our condition is marked by extraordinary, life-interrupting pain and trauma, from the initial lung collapse to the medical interventions and surgeries, lengthy and painful recoveries, and all-too-frequent complications like nerve damage.”

Having experienced those challenges firsthand, SKIP-DAWG hopes that sharing his story will encourage greater understanding of the realities faced by people living with recurrent lung collapses, particularly the complications that can persist long after surgery.

The campaign adds another dimension to his musical comeback, allowing him to reconnect with audiences while giving a voice to others navigating similar experiences.

For an artist whose career was interrupted by circumstances beyond his control, ‘Lyrical Playboy’ represents both a creative return and a personal milestone.

With five albums behind him and a renewed determination to make music, SKIP-DAWG is embracing the confident persona that first defined his artistry while using his platform to draw attention to a condition that has profoundly shaped his life.

‘Lyrical Playboy’ is the latest single from SKIP-DAWG. More information about his experiences and awareness efforts is available through the Collapsed Lung Project and his official website.
