Known for his versatility behind the kit, Scruge has entered a new chapter as a traveling drummer, performing with a wide range of artists, productions, churches, festivals, and live events. The move has allowed him to experience something every working musician understands: there is no single stage, sound, or audience that defines the job.
One weekend might find Scruge behind the kit at a small church, where the music is intimate and the drummer has to respond to the room. The next could put him on a much larger church stage, followed by a festival, a country performance, or an entirely different live production.
That versatility has become one of his biggest assets.
From Local Stages to Life on the Road
Scruge’s recent work with Layla Spring has helped push that transition even further. Traveling with Spring has given him opportunities to perform in different markets and environments while adapting to the demands of a professional touring schedule.
The road also recently brought Scruge to AUX Cords Wars, adding another type of live environment to an already diverse performance résumé.
For a drummer, that kind of variety is more than simply collecting dates on a calendar. Every show requires a different approach.
A church service can demand sensitivity and restraint. A festival may require power and endurance. Working with a country act can call for a completely different pocket and musical vocabulary. And when the stage gets bigger, the drummer has to understand how their playing translates through a full production.
