Steph Curry Floated in Spurs Trade Proposal After Warriors’ Offseason Misses

Stephen Jackson has floated San Antonio as a potential landing spot for Steph Curry, but the idea remains hypothetical as Golden State’s franchise star continues to say he wants to finish his career with the Warriors.

Steph Curry is at the center of a new Spurs trade proposal after former NBA champion Stephen Jackson questioned whether the Golden State Warriors have enough to contend in 2026-27. Speaking on All The Smoke, Jackson said San Antonio would be his preferred destination if Golden State ever decided to move Curry, according to BasketballNews.

Jackson pointed to De’Aaron Fox and San Antonio’s stockpile of draft assets while making clear he was not necessarily proposing that the Spurs give up Dylan Harper or Stephon Castle. “They got the pieces to move for a Steph with De’Aaron Fox,” Jackson said, adding that he thought the pairing could work for a team already built around Victor Wembanyama.

The proposal comes after a frustrating Warriors offseason in which Golden State was linked to several major names without landing the kind of star addition that could dramatically change its title outlook. The team ultimately entered September with a roster still heavily dependent on Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Kristaps Porzingis, while the franchise’s failed pursuits have fueled outside debate about whether it can maximize the final stretch of Curry’s prime.

That speculation should not be confused with evidence that Curry has asked out or that the Spurs and Warriors are discussing a deal. Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy said in August that Curry wants to finish his career with the franchise, and Curry recently reiterated that position publicly while leaving the timing of a possible contract extension open.

Curry, now 38, is entering the final season of his current contract and became eligible in late August for a two-year extension. His long-term decision has taken on greater significance after the Warriors finished 37-45 last season, while his continued value to the organization was also highlighted recently in 24-Hip-Hop’s report on his 4,000th three-pointer documentary.

For now, Jackson’s Spurs idea is a media proposal rather than an active trade scenario. Unless Curry changes his stance or Golden State’s front office shifts course, the expectation around the league remains that the four-time champion will continue his career in the Bay Area as the Warriors try to squeeze another competitive run out of their veteran core.
