Yung Miami says staying busy and returning to the studio became a lifeline as she worked through a difficult period before “Spend Dat” emerged as one of her biggest solo records.

Yung Miami is opening up about the emotional stretch that came before “Spend Dat” gained major momentum. During a new appearance on Way Up With Angela Yee, the Miami rapper reflected on dealing with depression while trying to keep her career moving forward.

“I had to keep working,” Miami said, explaining that too much idle time could pull her back into a “deep depression.” Rather than isolating herself, she said she would ask to get booked into a studio so she could channel those emotions into music while being around other people.

Miami also acknowledged that staying productive did not make the difficult moments disappear. She recalled days when she remained in bed crying, describing the period as emotionally heavy even as she continued working through it and pushing toward her next chapter.

That persistence eventually coincided with the rise of “Spend Dat,” which became her highest-charting solo Hot 100 entry after debuting at No. 66 earlier this summer. The record quickly grew into a defining song of her solo run and helped build anticipation around the music she has been preparing beyond the City Girls.

Her latest comments also fit into a longer pattern of Miami speaking candidly about grief and mental health. She previously discussed how constant work helped her cope after the 2020 death of her son’s father, Jai Wiggins, while also admitting that postponing those emotions eventually led to a painful breakdown.

Now, with “Spend Dat” giving her renewed momentum, Miami appears focused on turning that difficult stretch into forward motion. She told Yee that finishing her solo project is the priority, with plans to release more music, perform for fans and continue building out the next phase of her career.
