York, Pennsylvania is adding a new level of energy to its Juneteenth celebration with the launch of Run The Court, a competitive 3v3 basketball tournament bringing together athletes, families, businesses, and community leaders for a day centered on culture, competition, and community pride.

Presented by Women United in partnership with the City of York, the event will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Voni Grimes Gym as part of the city’s annual Juneteenth festivities.

For many York residents, basketball has long been woven into the fabric of the community. Organizers believe Run The Court creates an opportunity to celebrate that tradition while honoring the significance of Juneteenth and creating a space where multiple generations can come together.

More Than A Tournament

While teams will compete for cash prizes, a paid trip to Atlanta, and bragging rights, organizers say the event is about more than wins and losses.

Run The Court is designed to showcase the spirit of York while creating positive opportunities for local youth and adults through athletics, teamwork, and community engagement.

The tournament will feature a fast-paced 3-on-3 format, a 3-Point Shootout, music, community engagement opportunities, and a family-friendly atmosphere that welcomes spectators as well as players.

Celebrating Juneteenth Through Community

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Across the country, communities continue to find new ways to celebrate the holiday through education, culture, entrepreneurship, music, sports, and community service.

Run The Court aims to bring those elements together in a way that feels authentic to York.

A New Tradition For York

Women United hopes the event becomes a staple of York’s Juneteenth celebration for years to come.

With only 16 team spots available, organizers expect strong interest from players throughout York County and surrounding communities.

Whether competing on the court or cheering from the sidelines, attendees can expect a day focused on community pride, healthy competition, and celebration.
