J. Cole has delivered the first full taste of his final era with the release of the music video for “Disc 2 Track 2.” Shortly after confirming the February 6 release date for The Fall-Off, the Dreamville founder dropped the introspective visual, which serves as a cinematic companion to the album’s conceptual themes of fame, legacy, and memory.
Directed by Ryan Doubiago, the video adopts a unique storytelling device, visualizing Cole’s lyrics as he traces his journey backward from death to birth. The imagery strictly follows the song’s verse, where the rapper vividly describes seeing his life “in reverse,” moving from a hearse and a church service back to his days as a rising star, and eventually returning to his origins. The somber, biographical tone sets a heavy precedent for what Cole has touted as the concluding chapter of his career.
The track itself features production from DZL and Maneesh and hints at the massive scale of the upcoming LP, with the title “Disc 2 Track 2” all but confirming a double-album format. This release follows the cryptic The Fall-Off teaser shared earlier, solidifying the project’s rollout after years of fan speculation and delays.
