Topping off a momentous 2025, Bungalow Collect pulls back the curtain on their latest multi-track project, ‘Disco Rap Saved Me Again’, and they show no signs of stopping yet. Continuing to turn heads with their thrilling brand of the elusive Disco Rap, the outfit looks to make you move once again.
Consisting of seven tracks, ‘Disco Rap Saved Me Again’ highlights a band who are at the top of the game. Pushing hip-hop in a way that it is seldom heard, Disco Rap brings a fresh light to the genre. Clocking in at just over twenty minutes, the EP touches on all aspects of disco – from the straight-up funky, to the R&B tinged, to the Daft Punk-esque vocoded anthems. The project features previously released singles ‘It Takes 2’ and ‘Show You Some Things’, spinning them in a new floor-filling light that proves testament to the Collectives’ boundless artistry.
Starting after members Rshad and Marcus moved into a Brooklyn apartment, dubbed ‘The Bungalow’, Bungalow Collect was formed after childhood friends of the pair, Apollo J and Zay Suav, added their creative influences to the mix, and the outfit started to craft infectious grooves and floor-filling melodies.
Since their 2021 formation, the group have brought their unique form of disco-rap across the states with their dynamic live show appearing at the likes of So What! and SXSW. Their single ‘Tell Me Where To Go’ enjoyed viral hit status as it amassed over 13 million views and 12 million streams worldwide. On a mission to get people to dance and feel the power of music, Bungalow Collect lace their sound with catchy hooks and meaningful poetry to convey their distinctive creative tendencies.
Quotes from the collective:
- On the purpose behind our music
“Our intention when creating and releasing music is simple: we want to bring the fun back to rap. Over the last decade, so much of hip hop has leaned in one direction, and we feel like it’s created an imbalance. We want to restore that sense of balance and equilibrium by bringing back the joy, energy, and playfulness that originally made the genre exciting.” - On disco’s influence
“Disco started as an outlet—an escape for people to let loose and forget about their problems for a while. That spirit has always inspired us. With our music, we want people to experience that same freedom, that same feeling of joy and community that disco gave to the dance floor.” - On individuality in verses
“Even though our songs often celebrate good times, each verse carries pieces of who we are. The four of us all come from different walks of life, and we bring those unique perspectives into our verses. That’s what makes the music resonate—it’s fun, but it’s also authentic to our experiences.” - On independence and industry awareness
“We think it’s incredibly important to understand the industry you’re in. With the abundance of information available now, there’s no excuse to move blindly. That’s why you’ll hear us drop hints about our journey as independent artists—it’s not just music, it’s also a reflection of the grind and the strategy that goes into building something on your own terms.” - On positivity and the single’s message
“In 2025, we’re constantly connected to our phones, and it feels like negativity or train-wreck moments get all the attention. We’d rather put our energy toward creating music and content that highlights the good parts of life. ‘Show You Some Things’ is about exactly that—it’s about celebrating, coming together, and remembering that we only get one life to live. So let’s dance, connect, and make it count.” - On live shows and fan response
“We just did two shows in North Carolina for over 1,000 people, where folks were up, moving, dancing, and afterwards they praised us for bringing positive energy and what they called ‘nutritional value’ back to rap. That kind of response tells us we’re on the right path—it’s not just about entertainment, it’s about feeding people something good for the soul.” - On legacy and vision for a new genre
“We want people to remember us as the group that ushered in a new genre—‘disco rap.’ It’s the first genre that truly captures the essence of disco, with its freedom and fun, while blending it with the serious and truthful tones of rap. That’s the legacy we want to leave behind.”
