It seems Young Thug has secured his release from jail.
The Atlanta rapper has been released from DeKalb County Jail after spending six days in custody for failing a court-mandated drug test in his felony case.
“I just want to be home with my family and do right,” Thugger told the court ahead of being released from DeKalb County Jail in Georgia Wednesday, per a local report from 11Alive News.
He also said he was “sorry” for “disobeying the court.”
Officials told XXL magazine they have reinstated Thug’s $100,000 bond and that he is allowed to return home; but as of press time, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the rapper was not officially free, as the release process had not been completed. He was expected to return to jail immediately after Wednesday’s hearing to finish the steps.
Thug’s release comes with a few conditions: He must submit to a random drug test at least twice a week, keep in contact with his probation officer, and also receive substance abuse counseling.
Just one day earlier, Lil Uzi Vert had joined the call for the release of his frequent collaborator, who had been placed in jail after failing a drug test. The test had been ordered in connection with Thugger’s felony drug-related charges.
Uzi, whose social media presence has been thrillingly all over the place during the Eternal Atake era, shared a quick message alongside a should-be-framed-and-displayed-in-your-home viral photo with Thugger. “Free The Snake,” Uzi said. That’s it. That’s the full quote.
But, hey, you know goddamn well I’m going to take any and every opportunity available to write about music’s current reigning champion of cross-inverting sonic joy.
Uzi’s comments arrived after previous calls for Thugger’s release from Meek Mill, T.I., and others. “Free [Young Thug] RIGHT GOT-DAMN NOW,” T.I., whose Thugger x Swizz Beatz collab “The Weekend” recently got a Kid Art-directed video, said earlier this week.
Back in September, Young Thug released his six-track On the Rvn EP featuring Elton John and Jaden Smith.
