The Game puts his hometown at the center of “The Life,” delivering the first official music video from his newly released album The Documentary III.
The Game has released the official music video for “The Life,” a standout track from The Documentary III, which arrived on streaming services August 21. The visual premiered Thursday, August 27, extending the rollout for the Compton rapper’s latest chapter with a grounded look at the Los Angeles environment that continues to shape his music.
The video was directed by Sela Veve and filmed around Downtown Los Angeles. Game performs in front of a red Maybach, spends time with people in the neighborhood and watches a street dice game, keeping the focus on the everyday energy and culture of the city.
The setting fits the record’s personal tone, with the veteran MC presenting Los Angeles as more than a backdrop. “The Life” is the fourth song on the 24-track The Documentary III, and production credits for the track include Tommy Brown and Manesh.
The release also gives The Documentary III another visual moment less than a week after the album landed. The project features a wide-ranging guest list that includes Drake, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, YG, Larry June, Black Thought, PARTYNEXTDOOR and the late Drakeo the Ruler, while “The Life” keeps Game in the spotlight on his own.
The new album continues the series that began with The Documentary in 2005 and later expanded with The Documentary 2 and The Documentary 2.5 in 2015. More than two decades after the original project helped establish him as a major West Coast voice, Game is again using the Documentary name to connect his current work with his Los Angeles roots.
With “The Life,” that connection is made visually through neighborhood scenes rather than an elaborate concept. The video puts Game back on familiar streets and offers a direct companion to one of the solo cuts on The Documentary III, keeping the album campaign firmly tied to the city at the heart of his catalog.
