In life, a lot of us set ourselves up for higher expectations, especially in a field such as production where it’s a bit oversaturated. We want to be the best, and the ones who make it are the ones who don’t settle for anything less than that. We all have times when we realize we need a break, or we need changes in our daily patterns. Sometimes we just don’t know what the next step is, or where we should take ourselves through this path, and only after taking a hiatus do, we truly understand what to do.
For example, I started a new job that prohibits me from making beats or making connections with others in the same “field.” But my motivation to learn and get better has only increased, while still not being able to put it into action. These are the times that we should focus our energy on ourselves. Where we see what we need to learn in real life and understand the mistakes we’ve made while focusing energy on our craft. And I’m not anyone super special or any person that’s done anything worth listening to.
But I’m also not the person who gave up on his dreams because it was “hard” or because it was over-saturated. During these few weeks that I’ve taken off, I’ve learned a lot about myself and about others. Humans are sensitive beings, and without this time to understand more, I wouldn’t be able to adapt and create music that hits the heart. Instead, I would be in the same place forcing myself to make music that makes people feel nothing.
See, we all have this tendency to be afraid of change or to stray away from things that might bring change to our lives. But for what? If you have the right mindset and good intentions, then the change will only make you a better person. And in the end, we will make mistakes, we’re only human. Don’t let that stop you from doing better or trying harder, if you truly want something you won’t just give up when it gets hard. Being afraid of change is like being afraid of the dark. We might not know what to expect, but take that risk because if you didn’t, you’d miss out on something no one else has experienced. Learn to trust your instincts and sometimes go against them to get out of your comfort zone. Because what’s in the dark might just be the one thing you’ve been searching for the entire time.
If there’s anything left that I have to say, it’s that we won’t ever know how far we will come unless we try. And if you feel doubt, just know you’re not alone, we all feel or have felt the same doubt in our lives maybe not with music or producing. But in general, maybe with people or trust, it’s all the same type of doubts and regrets.
Just don’t be afraid to make a mistake, life throws curveballs more often than we would like to admit, but you just have to be the type of batter that doesn’t let his guard down even if it takes a curve at the last second. Otherwise, you might miss out on a grand slam that nobody could have predicted.
